Logo design & usage depends on the nature of the business they are used for and the Travel and Tourism industry is no exception. Typically a logo used in the Travel or Tourism Company borrows heavily from the environment or can represent a famous Icon of the destination.

Colors most definitely come from the environment they represent e.g. GREEN if the environment is full of trees, or grass fields. As the Travel companies represent environments as their destinations that is exactly what is represented in their logos and has to be used carefully e.g. you cannot use the logo of a winter resort for Las Vegas or vice versa.
